I wrote my first book while serving as an aerial reconnaissance photographer with Royal Air Force squadrons in Germany and Malta. This was at the height of the Cold War, with surveillance being carried out at high altitude over Middle East countries and along the Soviet border.

Leaving the RAF to specialise in industrial photography, including aerial photography of the high voltage grid, I went on to develop remotely operated cameras to inspect components deep within nuclear reactors. I was married by then, with children, but somehow I still managed to find time to keep writing!

My first book was published in the UK in 1966 — The Timpitters’ Mine by Victory Press (now Kingsway Publications), a boys’ adventure set in a Derbyshire lead mine.

The Timpitters’ Mine was the first of seven children’s adventure stories with Victory Press, many of which were bought as Sunday School prizes. Then followed a photography book with Pan and another photography book with Penguin.

In the 1980s I rewrote seven Christian Classics for young readers. More recently I have completed five modern thrillers, but now I’m going back to my roots, and Young Pilgrim’s Progress, and Pilgrim’s Progress Puzzle Book are just the first of what I hope will be a series of books for young readers.

I have three grown up children — Jonathan, Simon and Emma — and I live in the English West Country. I would like to hear from my readers, both new and old, so if you want to send me an email just click here:
